Samburu – 2 Nights
International arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport – Transfer to Wilson Airport – Flight to Samburu (1.5 hours) A place of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers, Samburu and Shaba National Reserves provides a home to the endangered Grevy’s zebra and the rare beisa Oryx whilst large herds of elephant roam the gaunt hills during the day before returning to bathe on the banks of the river in the evening. Its dramatic landscape features rocky battlements, craggy scarps, dry river beds and fallen boulders rising out of the thorn scrub against a backdrop of the far-distant hills and the great red table mountain known as Lololokwi. Masai Mara – 3 Nights
Transfer to airstrip – Flight to Masai Mara (1.5 hours) – Transfer to accommodation "Out of Africa" will come alive! Enjoy the endless plains of golden grass dotted with Acacia Trees and witness the most spectacular wildlife experience on earth between July and September – the yearly migration of millions of wildebeest and zebras and the dramatic crossing of the crocodile-infested Mara River in a quest for the best pastures. Even if you don’t experience the migration, the Masai Mara will impress you with a dense animal population and Big Five encounters. Lamu Archipelago – 4 Nights
Transfer to airstrip – Flight to Wilson Airport (1.15 hours) – Flight to Lamu (2.15 hours) – Transfer to accommodation. Cast into the Indian Ocean off the coast of Kenya, the island and town of Lamu is heir to a distinctive tradition over a thousand years old. The Swahili culture and style of Lamu are a mix of East African, Omani, Yemeni, Indian, and some Portuguese and Victorian influences. Enjoy romantic dhow cruises into the sunset or walks along the beaches. Exploring Lamu Town will give you a great insight into Swahili culture - donkey-wide alleyways from which children grin; women whispering by in full-length “bui-bui” (black cover-all worn by some Islamic women outside the home); cats casually ruling the rooftops; blue smoke from meat grilling over open fires; and the organic, biting scent of the cured wooden shutters on houses built of stone and coral.
